The Association of Children's Museums is recognized as a
global leader, advocate and resource among organizations serving
the learning needs of children and families.
ACM Mission
The Association of Children's Museums builds the capacity
of children's museums to serve as town squares for children
and families where play inspires creativity and lifelong learning.
What ACM Values
- Members children's museums and museums dedicated
to serving children and families.
- Leadership and excellence as key characteristics of its
work on behalf of the field.
- Diversity and strives to build an inclusive community
in all that it does.

ACM Strategic Goals and Objectives
1) Make visible and promote the value of children's museums
nationally and internationally.
Objectives:
- Position and brand children's museums as unique places
of learning, creativity and play where childhood is respected,
nurtured and celebrated.
- Promote the critical role of children's museums as important
players in the learning lives of children to funders, business
and community leaders, policy makers, media and educators.
- Serve as a repository for research that demonstrates the
value and advances the work of children's museums.
2) Build the capacity of children's museums to achieve
sustainability and growth.
Objectives:
- Develop and communicate standards of professional practice
in the field.
- Develop national and international alliances and partnerships
that provide opportunities for local collaboration.
- Support children's museums in maintaining relevance to
an ever-diversifying audience.
- Collect statistical benchmarking data on children's museums
in order to track and analyze existing and emerging trends.
3) Use the collective power of children's museums to leverage
innovative opportunities for the field.
Objectives:
- Develop large-scale strategic initiatives that leverage
the collective power of the field.
- Position ACM as a valued partner, helping to influence
policy on behalf of children's museums.
4) Strengthen the network of children's museum professionals.
Objectives:
- Support the development of emerging and proven leaders
in the field.
5) Ensure the future of ACM with strong leadership and
sound financial practices.
Objectives:
- Strengthen ACM's capacity for growth in order to meet
the evolving needs of children's museums.
- Diversify ACM's products and services, as well as its
sources of income, in order to sustain the Association as
a valued resource for the children's museum field in the
future.
