ABOUT THE EXHIBIT AND PARTNERSHIP
Keep Midland Beautiful and the Midland County Library have a history of partnership to bring quality programming and education to the community. Keep Midland Beautiful and the Library are partnering again this summer to bring a world-class exhibit called Super Kid Saves the World to the Library’s exhibit space.
The Super Kid Saves the World exhibit was developed by the Magic House Children’s Museum in St. Louis, and is based on the British children’s book, George Saves the World by Lunchtime written by Jo Readman and illustrated by Ley Honor Roberts. The book features an ordinary family, who in the course of a day save the world simply by making responsible choices. The exhibit based on this book is comprised of seven modules that teach participants the importance of Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling, as well as resource conservation and beautification. Those modules include: The House, The Garden, The Re-Use Charity Shop, The Farmer’s Market, The Recycle Center, The Reduce Fuel Station and The Research Lab.
Through this sixteen-week exhibit, a connection between art, literature, community beautification and personal responsibility for the environment is clearly made and used as an avenue to teach children and their families about caring for our world. This exhibit will also coincide with the library’s summer reading program, reaching over 2,500 children at the library each year. Total exhibit attendance is anticipated to exceed 75,000 visitors from around the region.
