Advocacy Central
Advocates help educate elected officials, funders, schools, the media, corporations and the general public about children’s museums and their importance in communities. Advocacy is all about relationships — building relationships, fostering support and transforming people into champions for your cause. Like all relationships, building familiarity and trust takes time and effort.
Anyone who cares about your museum can advocate on your behalf — your visitors, volunteers, patrons and supporters.
Museums must work together and have a consistent message to gain support at the national level. The American Association of Museums, an ACM ally, helps to coordinate national advocacy efforts by discipline-based museum associations. ACM is on AAM’s Museum Advocacy® Team, a national network of museum advocates working to influence elected officials and public policy makers on issues critical to museums.
