Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Association of Children's Museums is committed to ensuring that all museums have an active presence at InterActivity. We are pleased to offer two scholarships for this year's event: the 2017 Diversity in Action Scholarship and the InterActivity 2017 Small Museums Financial Aid Program.

2017 Diversity in Action Scholarship 

Application Deadline: January 13, 2017

The Association of Children's Museums will provide selected small museum professionals with complimentary registration to InterActivity 2017: Fun is Serious Business, May 2-5, in Pasadena, CA, and a ticket to the Kidspace Evening Event. Travel to InterActivity, food, and hotel accommodations are the responsibility of the selected recipient.

Professional Scholarship: Provides leadership development and peer-networking opportunities by attending InterActivity 2017. Awardees will be asked to submit a session proposal for InterActivity 2018 and share their InterActivity 2017 experience with the children's museum field.

An Individual may apply for a professional scholarship if he or she meets the following criteria:

  • Self-identifies with one or more minority groups (some examples are: racial/ethnic minority, person with a disability, or LGBT);
  • Is an ACM member or works for an ACM member institution; 
  • Has not attended InterActivity within the past two years (2015 or 2016);
  • Is working to increase diversity in the museum field, in their community, and/or in their institution;
  • Demonstrates a desire to enhance his/her career in the children's museum or larger museum field;
  • Has been employed at her/his present institution full-time for at least one year prior to date of application submission.

Student Scholarship: Provides an opportunity to gain greater professional understanding of the children's museum field and enhance one's professional network by attending InterActivity 2017. Scholars will be given complimentary, one year student membership to ACM and will be asked to share their InterActivity 2017 experience with the children's museum field.

An individual may apply for a student scholarship if he or she meets the following criteria:

  • Self-identifies with one or more minority groups (some examples are: racial/ethnic minority, person with a disability, or LGBT);
  • Attending an accredited graduate program, or graduated from an accredited program within the past two years;
  • Demonstrates an interest in working in the children's museum or larger museum field;
  • Has not attended InterActivity within the past two years (2015 or 2016);
  • ACM membership is NOT required.

Please note: applicants who are not awarded a scholarship and wish to attend InterActivity 2017 will be able to register at the Early Bird rate.

Application: There is no limit to the number of applications that a single museum may submit; however, only one individual will be awarded from a single institution.

InterActivity 2017 Small Museums Financial Aid Program Sponsored by Jack Rouse Associates

Application Deadline: January 13, 2017

The InterActivity Small Museums Financial Aid Program will provide selected small museum professionals with complimentary regisration to InterActivity 2017: Fun is Serious Business, May 2-5, in Pasadena, CA, and a ticket to the Kidspace Evening Event. The goal of the program is to offset professional development expenses for museum staff at open children's museums with annual budgets under $500,000. By doing so, ACM wishes to cultivate staff members at small museums for long-term careers in the children's museum field. Travel to InterActivity, food, and hotel accommodations are the responsibility of the selected recipient of his/her employer institution.

Applicant Eligibility: An individual may apply for financial aid if he or she meets the following criteria:

  • Employed at an open International or U.S. children's museum that has an annual operating budget under USD $500,000;
  • Is an ACM member or works at an ACM member institution;
  • Has been employed at her/his present institution full-time for at least one year prior to the application submission deadline date;
  • Has not attended InterActivity within the past two years (2015 or 2016);
  • Demonstrates a desire to advance her/his career in the children's museum field.

Please note: applicants who are not awarded financial aid and wish to attend InterActivity 2017 will be able to register at the Early Bird rate.
