Program Coordinator, Connections (Bilingual)

Description

The Program Coordinator, Connections serves as a lead facilitator for the Museum’s education programs, integrating current research and best practices with the Museum’s educational philosophy. This person in this position must be able and willing to facilitate a variety of programs, including family classes, camps, school group visits, drop-in programs, festivals, offsite programming, and staffing the Museum’s exhibitions. The Program Coordinator models best facilitation practices and trains and coaches Education Facilitators and Assistants on those best practices. The Program Coordinator, Connections has a primary focus on program facilitation and administrative support for the Connections program. This position spends about 75% of total time facilitating educational programs and 25% on related administrative duties.

Qualifications • Bilingual in Spanish required. Able and willing to speak and listen fluently with children and adults in Spanish on a daily basis required. Able and willing to occasionally read, write or translate brief written materials such as surveys and educational materials as needed is preferred. • Must possess current California driver’s license and have reliable access to a car; local travel required. • B.A. or B.S. in early childhood, science or art education, museum studies or relevant field strongly preferred. • Basic computer skills including web-based survey/questionnaire services required • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, and Power Point is required. • Two years related experience developing and facilitating programs in informal learning environment preferred. • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and troubleshoot in a fast paced work environment. • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. • Experience in community engagement, subsidized preschools or social work strongly desired • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Experience in customer service. • Must be trained or commit to being trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED for adult, infant and child. • Familiarity with early childhood learning and pedagogical approaches, some coursework units or willingness to obtain them desired. • Familiarity with Bay Area agencies and services for low-income families strongly desired. • Prior experience as an Education Facilitator or Educator at the Bay Area Discovery Museum preferred.
Job Responsibilities • Facilitate educational programming for preschool children, teachers, and parents/caregivers, including outreach and Museum visits. • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with partner organizations and their surrounding communities by prioritizing anti-bias and culturally sensitive teaching and providing exceptional customer service in accordance with Museum standards. • Maintain database of Connections partners and resources. • Maintain events calendar including scheduling outreach and Museum visits, reserving and tracking group transportation, and coordinating use of Museum classrooms and other program spaces. • Schedule and train volunteer activities and/or paid Museum staff when they assist with Connections. • Prepare, organize and maintain educational materials and classroom set-ups daily. • Primary person in charge of organization of program materials and supplies including ordering, stocking, maintenance and storage. • Participate as a team member in the development of educational content for preschool children, teachers, and parents/caregivers including outreach and museum visits. • Participate as a team member to ensure goals and objectives of Connections and other Museum departments on assigned projects. • Other duties as assigned.
