Born Learning - Engaging Your Community in Early Learning

Born Learning is a dynamic public engagement campaign and toolkit created by United Way of America and its partners, the Ad Council, Civitas and Families and Work Institute for community partners to use toin helping parents, caregivers and communities support early childhood learning.boost community engagement with and support of early childhood learning. Several children's museums have already adopted Born Learning materials for use with their family visitors, some in partnership with and others independently of their local United Ways.

Which Born Learning materials can museums access for free?
Born Learning materials are research-based, professionally designed and produced to be easily adaptable to your situation. All are free or low-cost to use and offer a range of formats. Printing costs are the responsibility of the local distribution sites or coalitions using Born Learning materials.

Children's museums can use Born Learning tools as part of their work in promoting awareness, education and action - all to help parents, grandparents, caregivers and communities boost school readiness. Most of these materials are available in Spanish as well as English.

As a Born Learning materials distribution site or coalition member, free or low-cost materials include:

  • Born Learning PSAs, "What You Can Do" clips, and Talaris/Born Learning interstitials;

  • "Learning on the Go" tips to drop into newsletters, Web site and/or blast emails to members;

  • "Your Child @ Series" of downloadable PDF handouts, ready for photocopying;

  • Print-ready, four-color flyers, posters, brochures and handouts that you can customize with your museum logo and print locally. (These materials are also available for purchase from UWA.) Seeking funding to get these materials printed can be a great joint project for a children's museum and a local United Way; and

  • Born Learning email newsletter for parents/caregivers.
