ACM Open Museums Designated Promise Places
ACM's long standing partnership with America's
Promise Alliance (APA) has taken a new step forward. As children's
museums regularly deliver APA's Five Promises, APA has designated
each museum a Promise Place.
About
America's Promise Alliance
America's Promise Alliance
is the nation's largest partnership organization dedicated
to improving the lives of children and youth by raising awareness,
supporting communities and engaging in nonpartisan advocacy.
Through its Grad Nation campaign, it harness the collective
power of its partner network to mobilize Americans to end
the high school dropout crisis and prepare young people for
college and the 21st century workforce. Building on the legacy
of its Founding Chairman General Colin Powell, the Alliance
believes the success of its young people is grounded in the
Five Promises caring adults, safe places, a healthy
start, an effective education and opportunities to help others.

About Promise
Places
A Promise Place can be any
school, community center, place of worship, business, or organization
that provides all Five Promises caring adults; safe
places; a healthy start; an effective education; and opportunities
to help others to youth.
The importance of Promise Places is underscored
in the Alliance-commissioned research brief, Every
Child, Every Promise (ECEP). Findings show that young
people who receive four of the Five Promises are far more
likely to be successful, twice as likely to get A's, twice
as likely to avoid violence, and 40 percent more likely to
volunteer. In addition, the research shows that receiving
four out of five of these basic resources has the potential
to level the playing field for youth across racial and economic
lines.
