Description:
The Adventures of MR. POTATO HEAD,
an exciting new hands-on exhibit developed in collaboration
with Hasbro, Inc., will premiere at the Betty Brinn Children's
Museum in the summer of 2008 and will then embark on a national
tour. The exhibit features MR. POTATO HEAD, the much-loved
silly character, who becomes an astronaut, explorer, scientist
and undersea adventurer with a change of his "parts."
MR. POTATO HEAD's knack for wacky escapades and familiar personality
will engage children in adventures that are friendly, yet
exotic, while the comic appeal of the character will charm
adults and encourage them to play along.
The MR. POTATO HEAD character will lead
the way on amazing adventures into outer space, on a jungle
safari, on an archaeological dig, and under the sea. In addition
to building a variety of essential academic skills, the exhibit
encourages children to welcome new experiences with confidence,
curiosity and humor, to think about all they can be and do
and to always respect themselves and others.
Signage and Support: All exhibit signage
is provided in English and Spanish. Marketing and publicity
materials are provided, along with an educational program
guide and detailed instruction manual.
Make one or all of MR. POTATO HEAD'S adventures
a permanent part of your museum. Call for details!

Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog
transports visitors to the world of Clifford, Emily Elizabeth
and all of the residents of Birdwell Island. Like tourists
visiting Birdwell Island, visitors will start their journey
to the exhibit aboard the Birdwell Island ferry, complete
with seagull sounds and clanking ship bells.
Families take the captain's seat and steer
the ship's wheel as they disembark and enter the world of
Clifford and Emily Elizabeth. All of the exhibit "sites"
are environments based on locations found on the PBS Kids
Clifford The Big Red Dog television series. The exhibit content
and environments are targeted toward ages 2-8, families and
school groups and include:
- Exhibit Entry: A lighthouse leads the way for visitors
to enter the exhibit.
- Birdwell Island Ferry: Upon entering the exhibit,
visitors climb aboard the Birdwell Island ferry and try
their hands at steering the ferry as passengers hear ocean
noises and an announcement of their arrival to Birdwell
Island.
- Samuel's Fish and Chips Shack: As visitors step
inside Samuel's restaurant, they step into the shoes of
restaurant workers by cooking, cleaning, serving food, and
restocking shelves. A cash register, order pads, and a menu
promote early literacy and early math skills.
- T-Bone's Beach Fun: Families visit T-Bone and his
bone-shaped sand box where they put together a sculpted
sand castle puzzle, dig for treasure of different shapes
and sizes, and play with plastic connectable fish from a
treasure chest.
- Clifford and his doghouse: A giant Clifford invites
visitors to sit on his paw next to Emily Elizabeth or slide
down his tail. Visitors are encouraged to try their hand
at keeping Clifford's dog bowl full by loading dog food
into his bowl with a conveyor belt.
- Emily Elizabeth's Backyard Theater: Children don
costumes and step onstage in front of a Clifford backdrop
to join in the fun. Seating is arranged in front for audience
members.
- Howard's Home: Visitors help out Emily Elizabeth's family
by doing some hands-on yard-care and tending to the flowers
in the garden.
- Cleo's Backyard: Cleo welcomes our youngest visitors
to her backyard-a small tot play land. Based on the items
found in Cleo's yard, the exhibit components encourage large-muscle
development and appropriate risk-taking.
- Birdwell Island Post Office: Visitors can deliver
their own hand-made letters or pre-addressed letters to
the post office and mailboxes throughout the exhibit.
- Author's Corner and Reading Area: This library
includes a cozy book nook with bookshelves filled with Clifford
stories. Visitors view video clips of Norman Bridwell and
browse through an art gallery to get an inside look at the
development of Clifford The Big Red Dog and Mr.

Come castle folk! Come dance and play! Visitors
playfully explore the interconnectedness of community members
in a setting inspired by fantasy and history. From becoming
a jester and putting on a show, to helping the cook prepare
a feast and constructing a bench in the carpenter's workshop,
children's play and learning are supported by the exhibit's
design, characters, narrative, interactives, costumes and
props. The exhibit is targeted toward children ages 10 and
younger, families, and school groups. Each component of the
exhibit invites the visitor to experience community life through
the perspective of one of nine characters working together
to throw a party in the castle.
Key areas include:
- Exhibit Entry and Big Book: Lord Ben and Lady Evolent
welcome visitors, who can begin their adventure by reading
the story of The Amazing Castle and its inhabitants.
- The Keep: Toddlers create a miniature community
in a castle-inspired dollhouse, build their own fortress
out of "stone" blocks, and play with a castle
busy wall.
- The Great Hall and Garden: Friends and family can
take a seat at the royal table while children prepare a
mouthwatering meal with "Kipper the Cook." They'll
select ingredients from a larder stocked with bread, vegetables
and fruits, and choose a main course to prepare and cook
in a cauldron at the fireplace. They can join "Posey
the Gardener" in the royal garden to pick and plant
vegetables and gather eggs from a hen in the garden shed.
- Royal Puppet Theatre: Children and adults become
castle entertainers when they visit "HiJinx the Jester"
in the Royal Puppet Theatre to present a puppet show. Children
can pick out a fancy robe, pull up a throne and become the
Lord or Lady, or don the jester's costume and entertain
the Lord and Lady.
- The Tailor's Workshop: Visitors try their hand
at repairing and making clothing for all of the castle citizens
with "Trim the Tailor." They can play a game,
design costumes, create their own outfits, and discover
how silly their costumes appear when they look at themselves
in a distorted mirror!
- The Carpenter's Workshop: Children and adults can
grab a work apron and help "Gable the Carpenter"
build a simple table or chair using mortise and tenon construction,
or put together something of their own design.
- The Blacksmith's Workshop: Families join "Synge
the Blacksmith" to help her affix a metal patch to
the hole in Kipper's big iron cauldron. Children and adults
can also pretend to repair iron tools using a stone forge
with "glowing" coals, a water bucket, and Synge's
anvil.
- The Dragon Tower: The Dragon Tower is home to "Herald
the Dragon," who announces important information to
the citizens of The Amazing Castle. But Herald keeps falling
asleep and needs to be awakened frequently. Visitors can
wake Herald by matching each of the six electronic castle
character puzzle pieces with his or her appropriate tool
or symbol.

The newest traveling exhibition from The Children's Museum
of Indianapolis, Bob the Builder- Project: Build
It, will bring Bob the Builder's world filled with colorful
characters, inspiring teamwork and "green" themes
to life for girls and boys and their families. Based on the

alongside Bob and his friends. When children enter the exhibit,
they can say "Hello" to life-sized three-dimensional
show characters on their way to Sunflower Valley. In Bob's
Mobile Home, they will learn more about Bob the Builder's
Big Plan, look at blueprints for his project, and even play
with a scale model of Sunflower Valley.

of the Machine Shelter where they can play with the building
machines from Bob the Builder's team-- Roley, Scoop, Muck
and Scrambler. They can even work together to "build"
the shelter using fake stones and wooden planks. Families
will also be able to explore tools and materials in Bob's
Workshop. Inside, they will operate child-friendly equipment,
fix a sink and design a blueprint. Families can also plant
a garden near Wendy's Caravan, work as a team at the Sunflower
Valley Water Pump with Farmer Pickles, Build an Eco-Friendly
Cottage and much more.

Description:
Exploring Trees Inside and Out will help children
discover nature through multiple perspectives and will inspire
them to get outdoors, explore the wonders, and develop connections
with the natural world. While visiting the exhibit children
can experience a glimpse of the wonders that await them outside
their own backyards and neighborhoods. These interactive exhibits
provide an innovative visual-spatial experience designed for
whole body, open ended participation to raise the awareness
and understanding of trees.
While visiting the exhibit children will be able to:
- Explore the heart of a tree trunk
- Jump into a giant bird's nest
- Crawl through a giant tree structure
- Hear the sounds of animals that live in the forest
- Soar over the tree tops like a giant bird with the blue
screen experience (Complete with costumes!)
Visitors will be given the opportunity to explore and discover
many aspects of trees from the inside out, from roots to leaves,
as a habitat for other living things and as a resource for
people. The exhibit serves as an "experience" about
trees that visitors will be able to transfer to the out-of-doors
at home, at school, in the park or on a hike in the woods.
Some exhibit elements include:
-
Climbing Tree -- Larger than life, the trunk invites
children and adults to enter and discover that a tree
is an amazing, living thing.
-
Sensation stations -- Throughout the exhibit are a myriad
of activity opportunities, including Scents and Sounds
of Nature, and Art in Nature, that will help advance the
messages about trees that permeate the exhibit and to
sharpen observation skills to look at trees in new ways.
-
Giant Leaf, Leaf and Slide Pile -- From the canopy, visitors
will discover they can actually climb inside a giant leaf.
From here, they will be able to hear, see and feel a leaf
as if they were a very small bug.
-
Giant Acorn -- Children can enter a larger than life
and discover the baby oak with a ready packed "lunch"
all ready to grow. Children can help the little acorn
germinate and begin its growth to a mighty oak.
-
Dancing with Trees -- Guests can wear animal costumes
including a butterfly and a squirrel. The backgrounds
represent several difference habitats where trees grow
and animals live. Children can soar over a meandering
stream or climb to the tree tops in a forest.
-
Wood Works -- A construction area work station with many
different pieces of wood in various sizes and shapes.
Families can work together to build unique structures,
bird houses or other buildings, fanciful or realistic.
Children and families will leave with a more defined understanding
of the importance of trees and an elevated appreciation of
trees and forests in their neighborhood and throughout the
world. Most of all, the exhibit will be a dynamic springboard
for visitors to take their experience outside. Leaving the
exhibit, guests see the calls to action - Extend your adventure
outside. Explore the wonder of trees. |

Description:
Living true to its mission to create extraordinary learning
experiences, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis has partnered
with the world's foremost map expert, The National Geographic
Society, and the most advanced producer of new mapping technology,
the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), to create
a compelling international traveling exhibit, National Geographic
MAPS: Tools for Adventure. This extraordinary exhibit will
provide children and families with an exciting opportunity
to immerse themselves in the thrilling world of maps!
In National Geographic MAPS: Tools for Adventure,
the adventure begins in Explorers School. A new explorer
has to learn the basics! Here, children and families manipulate
and study amazing maps to learn how they are used as tools
for adventure. They can use symbols to place landmarks on
Adventure Island, create a map of their neighborhood in Make
It, Map It, and learn how to find their way when North is
not at the top of the map.
After completing map skill-building activities, children
and families move on to Exploration areas grouped by land,
sea, air and space. In Explorations on Land, kids and
adults can explore the pyramids like National Geographic Explorer
Zahi Hawass and play together in a life-size Congo Trek tent
similar to the one that Michael Fay used in the jungles of
Africa. In Explorations at Sea, children and families
can pilot a canoe toward the North Star like Nainoa Thompson
as well as learn how to be a shipwreck explorer like Phil
Masters by layering old maps and new maps of the harbor to
find the Queen Anne's Revenge. In Explorations in Air and
Space, families can use sextants to find their location
in the world like Amelia Earhart, predict the weather using
data from the aqua satellite like NASA scientist Claire Parkinson,
and map the surface of Mars like NASA scientist Nathalie Cabrol.
Throughout the exhibition, there are opportunities for kids
and parents to dress like explorers, go on simulated computer
game adventures, map their expedition through your gallery,
and chart their past, present and future explorations.

this humorous piece, museum visitors instantly upload a 5-second
video of themselves making a silly face into a 'photo booth'
style kiosk. Then, the most recent video is added to the constantly
changing grid of faces projected onto the gallery wall. Each
video is bumped to the left when a new video is created, resulting

Description:
It's saving electricity with a single flip of a light switch,
turning an old tablecloth into a super hero cape and repairing
something instead of throwing it away. It's fighting pollution
and saving the world one aluminum can at a time. It's ordinary
kids making a difference. It's Super Kids Save the World!
Super Kids Save the World gives kids (and their parents)
the power to go green! Designed with "green" materials
and practices, this super exhibit gives kids real super hero
training starting with the four R's: Reduce, Reuse, Repair,
Recycle!
The exhibit is developed by The Magic House and based on the
British children's book, George Saves the World by Lunchtime
commissioned by the Eden Project, an educational charity dedicated
to showing the importance of taking care of our world. In
this book, written by Jo Readman and illustrated by Ley Honor
Roberts, George, Flora and Grandpa demonstrate that by taking
simple steps, families can become eco-friendly superheroes
in their own communities.
The exhibit includes more than 30 activities in seven environments:
House
- Take the Super Kid pledge to take care of our world.
- Don a super hero cape made from a recycled tablecloth.
- Dress a life sized cut-out figure to decide which children's
clothes go to the Re-Use Charity Shop.
- Repair a broken toy car so it can be played with again.
- Prepare and pack a healthy lunch with re-usable containers.
Garden
- Pick fresh vegetables in the garden to take to the market.
- Turn the compost pile with a garden rake.
- Create bedding for the bunny cage from torn newspaper.
- Save energy by hanging clothes on a clothesline.
Re-Use Charity Shop
- Try on funky clothes and see the result in the many mirrors.
- Produce greeting cards from a wide variety of recycled
materials.
- Play music on record players, radios and cassette recorders.
- Create a missing puzzle piece so the puzzle can be sold.
- Make new clothes for a paper doll.
Research Lab
- Play a virtual algae game to speed up bio-fuel production.
- Pump algae water through a photo-reactor.
- Use a microscope to identify algae from other microorganisms.
- Turn a hand crank generator to experience the difference
between incandescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs.
- Operate the levers to learn about solar power.
- Wear a lab coat just like a real scientist.
Recycle Center
- Take on the role of workers in a recycle center.
- Wear a hard hat and safety vest.
- Drive a recycling truck.
- Sort trash onto a conveyor belt system.
- Play a rapid-paced computer game to see who can sort recycled
materials the fastest.
Reduce Fuel Service Center

Description:
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz It All Started with a book
14 to be exact! L. Frank Baum wrote a magical story,
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900, with
original art by W. W. Denslow. In no time, it became a national
sensation and a cultural icon as the first American fairytale.
Now it is also an experiential traveling exhibition created
by Great Explorations Childrens Museum of St. Petersburg,
Florida.
This larger than life pop-up book exhibition dazzles the
eyes and stimulates the mind. Visitors literally step into
the pages of the story at each exhibit section designed as
an open book. Science, art and history are explored through
the wonder of this timeless story with hands-on activities
and interactive exhibits. Visitors follow the characters on
their journey along the road of yellow brick through
the Land of Oz and by the end, visitors and the storys
characters learn more about themselves. This project was funded
in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
